His birthday celebration

this year, i especially loved Christmas. i still am.

guitar jams, stories by candlelight, talking, indoor snowball fights (just one), laughing, bonding, pencil fights, little kids, homemade gifts, gifts of time, reminiscing, sharing, lots of food...good. so good.

i'm really trying to focus on enjoying my family, and it works! sometimes i realize even when i'm with people, i'm not really with them. i'm with them + my phone, them + my computer, or them + my wandering mind. this year, i pushed myself away from that and it's been wonderful.

in our family, Christmas is full of traditions. while that's another post of another day, it's one of my favorite things about the holiday. most of our traditions focus on the real reason why we celebrate.

preliminary sketch i did for a competition i ended up not entering...

let us all remember at every point of the year! merry CHRIST-mas!

it's nice to get yourself away from everything around you. we, in the 21st century, can get so overwhelmed and cluttered by everything around us. it all builds up so fast.

Elder Uchtdorf said it best when he told us to simplify our lives and focus on the things that matter most (of course he said it so much cooler than I just did). everything just goes so much smoother and i think we are happier when we can focus on those simple things, especially during this time of year.

thanks for the post. :)

I know what you mean. Sometimes I frustrate myself by not really mentally being there when I'm with my family, by allowing my mind to wander and not really enjoying the moment and the company to the fullest. It's a shame when that happens. But, in contrast to that, it's a great feeling to be able to push all other distracting thoughts away and really enjoy time together with family.
