this may make me sound like i'm a pre-teen. i recognize that. and today, i'm okay with it.
i am so pleased.
i just made the perfect playlist for my mood. i am so happy how it completes the perfect feeling for this morning. it consists specifically of older songs that i used to listen to on repeat. at one point in my life (early college?) they made me really happy. and then new music took over and i just didn't really listen a whole lot again because i tend to saturate myself with my current favorite bands since there's just so much good music.
hearing old songs is like greeting close friends again after you haven't seen them in a long time.
you never realize how much you've missed them til you're with them again.
i listened to the first 4 songs consecutively and now i'm listening to the rest on shuffle.

hypothetically speaking
you know those days when you wake up as early as you can (sometimes it's eeearly...but sometimes it's 8) and end up having a really good scripture study which sets your day off nicely? and then you get ready and go to a cafe and work on that project that's due that day but then you are incredibly focused which is awesome?
and then your friend comes to visit you at that cafe to pick up girl scout cookies he bought from your niece and you talk with him while you work and it's a really cool conversation but you're still super focused on work so it's like hitting two birds with one stone?
and then he leaves and you continue working and then stu maxfield ends up having lunch at the next table and you think "man, i grew up in a cool town and so many people don't even know how much talent and energy there is here just walkin' around eating lunch at places" but you don't say hi cuz you're super focused and you feel like he should be able to get his alone time with his food and then you keep working real hard on that project? oh oh and then you have to go to the bathroom a few times but you manage to not get your stuff stolen through various tactics, and you faintly notice you've gone through the same spotify playlist like 3 times over so you change it and your back and neck is absolutely on fire since you've been in the same position all day? but all this happened cuz you had incredible focus that was totally a blessing?
aaaaaand then you finish the project but you've been working on it for so long that you can't hardly believe it's finished? and you know that it really isn't finished because there are tweaks to be done but it's at least finished enough to present to your client who lives in egypt so he'd get in the next morning anyway? and then your boyfriend comes and is super interested in what you have been working on and validates you and you're reminded that even if your client hates it (even though your client is also super awesome), at least other people like the work you've been doing and then you eat food cuz by this point it's like 5pm and you're staaaarrrrrrrving but you're still in the mindset that this is lunchtime because you didn't eat lunch? but then the food is delicious?! especially after going on a short walk around the block because you can FINALLY see the sun and it's not freezing?!
and then a small kid comes up to your table and gives you a little toy heart and then you realize you actually know this kid and you look around frantically until you see two of your friends who married each other and made that kid, laughing at you in the corner?! remember how hilarious that is?
AND THEN you get up the courage to hit the "send" button to your client?! remember that?! eeeeeeeeeeee!
and then you run an errand and your boyfriend is super chill and all like "yeah i'll come to your fhe and also do yoga meditation with you" and then he does and he totally owns the fhe game that they are playing? and then you pick up your other super awesome friend and meditation is sort of weird but also really good and then you all go for delicious hot chocolate and cider? and then you and your boyfriend pick something up from your old art studio and then go to your home and have a really good talk and then some interesting conversation about snowboarding and then an cool discussion on your respective fears regarding extreme sports and then a good heart to heart and then laugh and are silly and goofy? and he leaves you super happy and then you check your email even though you told yourself you wouldn't cuz you wanted to sleep peacefully even if your client hates the stuff you made and says you need to start over but then you see the email that your client says and he totally digs the work you did?!
HUZZAH!
i mean, it's not like i'd ever really have a day exactly like this, but today was, well, you know. kind of along those vague lines. :)

a few days ago, i read this post (with possibly the *most* adorable picture ever) and really loved the idea of "happy lists".
recently, my life has had some major -meh- moments, so i just wanted to make a happy list of my own from these last couple of weeks:
1. avoiding game-day traffic altogether by navigating the foothills (and feeling awesome while doing it)
2. that rainbow in the sky for no reason on that perfectly sunny conference saturday.
3. skype
4. those days when you just like hearing yourself sing (which isn't all the time)
5. hearing the perfect song for the moment
6. remembering words like “nifty” and “neat” and using them
7. making nifty things for neat people
8. silly problems and creative solutions
9. excellent boots
10. being inspired
11. that perfect scarf-and-sweater weather, when it’s overcast and cloudy and beautiful
12. music outside
13. the newest google doc i made for myself, entitled: "thoughts // ideas // dreams // plans". (it's like i'm giving myself permission to dream again)
14. wonderfully insightful conversations
what's on your list?

rooftop concert? yes please.
{{editor's note: here at warm fuzzies, we pride ourselves on our thorough posts. but this time, we just kind of went... ...*meh*. but. there will be videos of the concert coming soon. two of them. maybe tomorrow. the author is...a pretty impatient person sometimes and just wanted to post this now cuz she wrote it, well, last week. so check back. :) }}
this past friday i attended a fantastic concert. consider and finish this incomplete equation:
lovely spring evening + free + friends + ROOF of a PARKING GARAGE = ?!
yeah. [don't] be jealous. it was just as epic and awesome as it sounds.
and the performers? paul jacobsen and the madison arm, and fictionist (i heard emily brown played as well but didn't get there in time for her). it was my first experience with both bands.
we walked in. saw this. joined some friends:
![]() |
| thanks, angela, for braving the side crowd to get these shots! |
and gosh, i was excited.
i *really* enjoyed the unaffected sounds of paul jacobsen and the madison arm. they just seemed like cool guys and i could just totally groove to their stuff. loved the harmonies and chill vibes.

| left: paul jacobsen + madison arm, right: fictionist |
the members of fictionist are all apparently from utah, and it was cool to see hometown boys perform when as they're getting big (they are in a competition to get on the cover of rolling stone and today is the LAST DAY to vote-- do it!). both bands were really generous and appreciative.
| some of us |
i decided halfway through that my soul needed this concert (because of the elements of the aforementioned equation). i wished everyone could have been there. then again, music doesn't affect everyone the same way. so... i really wished that (ready for a really convoluted sentence?!) -- everyone whom it impacts like it impacts me could have been there to appreciate and love the concert as much as i did. you can go ahead and re-read that if you need, cuz i'm not editing it.
i didn't have my camera (WHAT?! i know, right?!) but it was fun to play around with angela's new iphone to take a few photos and videos. that was good for my artistic well-being, too.
--
ps, in case you're wondering about the crowd vibe, and i'm sure you were, this was basically a hipster mecca. don't know what a hipster is? then READ THIS NOW. remember hannah? yeah. awesome.

-jeff, march 21, 8:37am
well, i'm home from new york and it's been really rough getting back into things. i vented to jeff sunday night and felt a bit better.
but after i got that text the next morning, i was reminded of the obvious: my attitude is my choice. and you know what? it's been a fantastic 2.25 days.
this morning, i drove to school (late) and it was super sunny and happy...and there were 4 songs in a row that i just completely danced to on the radio.
this was one of 'em.
ps, on top of that, it's my birthday week. i therefore give permission for everyone to be happy for no reason (and if you need a reason, it's my birthday week! go out and get yourself a gift or somethin.) i even got a text from my birthday week letting me know it would promise to be awesome. again, i extend this to everyone's week....but it's your choice. ;)

isn't. this. awesome. (?!)
why don't we do this with everything? i love this whole concept. let's do it.
ps, anyone have any ideas on how to make eating veggies fun? i know i'm like five years old or something, but i still have trouble making myself eat 'em....

first run in a year: CHECK!
that's what i just texted jeff.i went to the podiatrist a few weeks ago (after i posted this) and he said i could go ahead and get new running shoes and start out again! i have to start slow (it's so hard to do!) but i can run! i was beaming when i came out of the student health center; it was a stark contrast to last july when i walked out close to tears.
i bought running shoes at 26.2 on thursday. i highly recommend the place. i got saucony hurricanes, like the picture shows. i walked a bit that night to try them out, but tonight decided to go ahead and start running.
my first run didn't go as i expected (alone, at night) but here's what was so great about it:
11. clean, fresh air filling up my lungs.
10. looking up as i ran: the stars are beautiful on dark nights.
9. earphones that made my music sound like a soundtrack to the quiet night.
8. taking my earphones out and hearing the silent patter of my own feet.
7. new shoes that make my feet feel like they're running on clouds.
6. excited wonder of something that i haven't felt in a long time, and the rediscovery of that feeling.
5. DOing...not just THINKing about it. on top of that, doing something that doesn't require anything but my own self...and some good shoes. perhaps one of my favorite things about running.
4. such. good. running. music. (<----you NEED to watch that LAST video...)
3. people outside doing activities. brought a feeling of security and extra motivation.
2. looking like an idiot: i couldn't stop smiling. at least i was a happy idiot...heehee.
1. silently vowing not to take this for granted.
"it's a wonderful night...." :)

liberated!
I AM DONE WITH FINALS! (i even got the pdf sent off!)
i marched right into that jsb (the "extension" of the testing center) and i showed that advertising test who's boss. marched back out with a 93%, to match my previous advertising scores of 96% and 90% (i only feel good about saying this because i'll tell you this: i spent at least 13 hours studying for each one).
huzzah!
after, while waiting for a ride, i found myself sitting on a bench as the sun was setting, listening to coldplay's 'rainy day' and 'glass of water'. i felt so free up there (on a remote h-fac bench) i just wanted to dance and sing. but i had my sketchbook in hand, and started to wonder how i could illustrate what music does for my soul...especially after something as happy as closing a crazy hard week of finals.
this is as close as i could get. a quick sketch, but it still makes me happy.

ps. two posts in one day; is anyone proud of me?

The Big 2-1
today is my birthday! (okay...it's a flat-out lie. i totally post-dated this one).
i didn't have my usual crazy party or anything...i was too busy. but there were lots of little (and some bigger) things that helped me celebrate! i'd like to share 21 of them (appropriate for the occasion)

1* 2 birthday texts to wake up to (i love the feeling of waking up and having texts already there)
2* a wonderful birthday morning, including a cute surprise from mom, new storybooks, refreshing snow and dancing to Coldplay (the weather remained awesome throughout the day...with lots of sun and wind later, with pretty bright colors!
3* fabulous lecture in illustration history, my first class of the day: i took notes like an artist :)

4* tons of texted, facebooked, and gmailed birthday wishes through the day, reminding me that people are the most important things and i am so blessed to have such wonderful friends.
5* productive and unorthodox work...i drew a bridge and water on a huge piece of butcher paper
6* calls and voicemails (my niece gracie left a voicemail that i wish i could keep forever!)
7* an impromptu photoshoot with a friend who was in need of awesome pictures. we succeeded :)

8* surprise visit from one of my favorite people ever
9*relaxing night skipping part of class (shh!) and going out to ice cream, then shopping and shoe browsing with another favorite person (i'm so lucky to have such awesome favorite people)
10* extended birthday: dad was in town and took me to birthday lunch on friday at one of the best restaurants ever (Pizzaria 712) with dessert (Sub Zero) where I ran into another of my favorite people (oooh twicia...)

11* jess, zach, and twicia visiting and laughing til our sides hurt (good pain)
12* the surprise visit from friends the next morning (saturday) at 6 am, politely kidnapping me and taking me to IHOP

13* my niece's baptism.
15* birthday haircut...i got bangs :)
16* mom the amazing prepared a family dinner (chicken/rice/gooood topping) and birthday DESSERT (i requested birthday brownies. i never liked cake anyway)
17* my 12-yr old nephew joshua's gift: he looked up and selected a recipe online, then made me doughnut holes. all by himself. i'm not sure if i could do that all by myself now.
18*21 birthday paddles on the bum (this has NEVER happened to me before) ...from all my nieces and nephews, as headed up by my most innocent
and oldest sister! (not a super attractive picture...but it had to be shown)
19* singing and playing piano with my sisters, and some guests :) . 10-yr old niece jessica commented, "see? we spent the night doing something even better than watching a movie!")
20* candidly letting people know it was my birthday, so they'd have an excuse to celebrate. i really enjoyed this one. i truly wanted everyone to be happy, just because i was. i had a reason, it being my birthday and all, but it was so fun to see my excitement transfer to others when they didn't have a reason. really, do we need a reason to be happy? nope.
21* looking forward to the best year so far!
thanks to all of you who read my blog and are my friends. thanks for forgiving my follies and having faith that i can be better. 21 years and counting...eternity to go. i'm working on it!

13* my niece's baptism.
she was baptized by my big brother (her dad), kevin. the last person he baptized was me. words can't adequately describe how i felt witnessing that. this was by far the best birthday gift.14* family. everyone was there except my brother in california, whom i missed, but am excited to see sometime. i was thinking about going to the festival of colors, but didn't go due to a headache and pure exhaustion. instead i got to have fun with my nieces and nephews and helped my mom cook

a week of thanks-giving
tuesday:
I had to work in the morning.
I am thankful for my job and the security it provides.
I had a busy day, doing things that weren't very fun.
I am thankful for un-fun things, so that I may enjoy fun things more fully.
I played in leaves with my friend Adam at a park.
I am thankful for the simple joys in life.
I had an interview with the Bishop.
I am thankful for having a bishop who really cares about me as a person.
I was crammed and stuck in the backseat floor of a small-ish car with a blanket over me for about 15 minutes (no, it was not a hostage situation).
I am thankful that it was with Jess, to surprise Diana to take her out with her fiancee for her birthday. :)
wednesday:
I attended the temple at 7am.
I am thankful for the temple. And for the opportunity to go so early to start the day right.
I then cleaned my room...all day.
I am thankful for my house!
I was alone for the majority of the day.
I am thankful for Frank Sinatra, and other good music, that kept me company, and in good spirits.
My family came to town and our quiet home turned into a chaotic mass of people.
I am thankful for my family and that we are friends with each other.
I was in charge of family pictures, in a hot basement with ugly lights and 20 people, including 7 tired kiddos.
I am thankful for the ability we have to preserve memories, especially with our grandparents there.
I wasn't able to participate in the gal's traditional "pie night" because I was so sleepy.
I am thankful that we have traditions, and that I was present for this one.
thanksgiving day:
I didn't wake up as early as I'd have liked.
I am thankful I woke up to the Charlie Brown Theme Song and the sound of little children.
My sister didn't get me up to make the last pie like I'd have hoped.
I am thankful for the opportunity I had to make eggs and omelets for many of my hungry family members.
I didn't go with my sisters to get fun lil' pedicures (I'm poor).
I am thankful for the time I spent reading my scriptures and being with my brothers and mom.
I unfortunately found myself with nothing to do for a bit.
I read Tim's blog and decided to text some of my friends that I felt I needed to say hi to.
Our Thanksgiving dinner, originally set for 1 or 2 pm, wasn't actually ready until 5pm.
I am thankful for the delay. Jeff reminded me that "there's something wonderful about that": I appreciated the food more.
Our poor grandparents Curtis came on time at 2pm, and they had to wait all that time for dinner to start.
I am glad for the longer time we had with them.
We tried to watch Kung Fu Panda after but there was a lot of whining from various kids.
I am thankful for that those little kids have good parents who are teaching them so well. I am also thankful for the 'pause' button.
I had a headache for a good chunk of the day.
I am thankful that I had the chance to take it easy and rest.
My friend Austin, who is in the Marines, came to visit me.
I am thankful for transcendental friendships.
I am thankful for Thanksgiving. (not just the holiday-- the action.)
I had to work in the morning.

Shattered Windows and the Sound of Drums
Lights. Lasers. Smoke. Cameras. Giant globes. Sound that shakes walls. Though there weren't any "shattered windows", Coldplay in all of their glory came to Salt Lake City as part of their Viva La Vida tour and it was absolutely fantastic! Coldplay is arguably my favorite band (arguable because of Tally Hall, of course...I think maybe they both tie for first) and I saw them last night in concert. Here was the set list:
Life In Technicolor
Violet Hill
Clocks
In My Place
Speed Of Sound
Cemeteries Of London
Chinese Sleep Chant
42
Fix You
Strawberry Swing
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face/Talk
The Hardest Part
Sweet lil piano something-something by Chris
Viva La Vida
Lost!
The Scientist
Death Will Never Conquer
A mixed recording of Viva La Vida again
Politik
Lovers In Japan/Reign of Love
Death And All His Friends
Yellow
I love that even though they're one of the biggest bands in the world, they were still super humble. Chris Martin introduced them as Coldplay, a band from Great Britain. It was awesome. They let us (the audience) sing a bunch of parts of the songs and at one point Chris commented, "Man! That's some good singin!"
So now I can say that I sang with Coldplay. :)
This was such an amazing concert. I called some friends during songs that I thought they'd appreciate just to share the joy, because I think that everyone should have experienced it. Here's the playlist again, with my commentary in between: (this is mostly so I can remember it, but it's awesome how they formatted the concert, so you should read it too. ;] )
Life In Technicolor
My, what a way to start the show. Especially after the headache-inducing (no, really, it did) second opening act (the first, Sleepercar, was good) that was all techno and weird animation. Life in Technicolor was a perfect way to set the mood, with a stunning setup of lights and color, introducing the night.
Violet Hill
I loved that this was next because it kept up the excitement for the show and kicked up the momentum of the feel of the concert.
Clocks
What a classic...I loved the lasers especially in this performance.
In My Place
Gorgeous rendition! I loved how throughout the concert, you could just see the band members bond. I could tell that they really enjoy playing together, and their chemistry definitely showed throughout the evening.
Speed Of Sound
Another beautiful typical Coldplay song. I think it was this one that had smoke with lasers, and Adam commented that he felt like he was floating in space, to which I agreed.
Cemeteries Of London
Each song had a different mood to it; with this it was a lot darker and cemetery-like feel. This added so much to the show!
Chinese Sleep Chant
42
Serious, this whole show was amazing with light and color and used them well. I also thought the camera men did a fabulous job of capturing all the great angles and a lot of the time I felt like it was a ready-made music video, but it was live!
Fix You
Adam and I got really excited when we realized it was this one...I don't know why. It was SO beautiful though! This is ultimately one of my all-time favorites.
Strawberry Swing
I learned chords for this song on my guitar, but haven't learned the solo yet. After this, I'm motivated to do so. And their guitars were SWEET!!!
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face/Talk
This was cool...the band members all came onto a white-lit platform and played together. It started out with a weird distortion and no one could tell what song it was first. When we finally realized, it was so rad! Then they went straight into Talk; the transition was so smooth that I didn't immediately realize it was a different song until he started singing Talk. I love when bands reward you for coming to their concerts by busting out stuff like this.
The Hardest Part
This song has actually been one of my all-time favorites (unlike you, Joe, haha) because it applies to me on so many levels in so many situations. Chris and Will, the drummer, made beautiful harmony. It rocks my socks that the drummer sings so well. Because Chris was still on the white platform and Will was back on the main stagewith the drums, they filmed it so there were two spotlights and the video screen showed them both.
Sweet lil piano something-something by Chris
I definitely didn't mind this :) {I later found out it was "Postcards from Far Away" from their amazing EP}
Viva La Vida
The whole concert was amazing, but everyone jumped up immediately and started cheering when this started to play after the simple, pretty piano solo. The band members had such energy and it was so great to watch them play this song that most people have come to know. Their energy reverberated off the walls and spread to the audience so quickly!
Lost!
This was my favorite song when I first heard the new album. I don't think I could stop smiling when I sang along in the concert.
The boys packed up like they were done, thanking us and running off stage. We, of course, wanted more, and lo and behold, the next thing we saw was them running up into the audience at the other end of the center...to seats with instruments already there! Chris announced that there are "super babes" in Utah and maybe the reason bands usually stayed on stage is so that they wouldn't get distracted with them in the audience. :]
The Scientist
He then explained that this was the portion of the show where the band played instruments that they didn't know how to play (except for Jonny, who plays the guitar). Chris played the harmonica (Adam and I were pleased) and they performed The Scientist! It sounded pretty dang good for not knowing how to play.
Death Will Never Conquer
Sung by Will, playing the guitar! I love this song. I got it free off of their website a while ago. We thought the concert was definitely done this time...
As we cheered and they ran off again, a mix of Viva La Vida played on a recording. The lights were dark and the audience realized that to add to the Coldplay light affect, we all had cell phones, and suddenly there were gajillions of cell phones dancing along. It looked so sweet!
All of the sudden, the stage erupted with huge bright lights , again pulsating to the beat of...
Politik (!!!!!)
We went nuts, of course. At this point, I just busted the last songs at the top of my lungs. I loved it.
Lovers In Japan/Reign of Love
This was accompanied with sweet old-fashioned clips of "lovers" and it was hilarious! I called Diana during this one; it reminded me of her and her awesome fiancee, Jonny. In the middle of the song, they dropped tons and tons of little confetti butterflies over the audience on the floor! It was awesome.
Death And All His Friends
After this one, we thought it was over...again...and encored them. Again. They came back on and thanked us again for coming, announcing they'd end with one more song.
Yellow
As the stage was flooded with yellow light, I couldn't have asked for a better ending song. Yellow was the first Coldplay song I ever heard, and one of the first I learned on my guitar. It just seemed fitting that they ended with this one.

Anyway if you like Coldplay, you should really talk to me about this concert. I have other fun things to show! ;) It was pretty much another perfect night.
AND now I have seen Tally Hall and Coldplay BOTH in the SAME year. (Jack Johnson was also a bonus!) :D

garage fame
the best thing EVER just happened.
i'm sitting here on the computer, trying to figure boring school-esque things out, and my mom is outside in the garage. the door connecting our house to our garage is open. i hear little footsteps approach her, and luckily heard the conversation. it made me so happy that i went straight to blogspot to record it (i know...i had a discussion earlier today with tim gustafson about the supreme but proud geekyness it is to have something awesome happen and automatically think, "i'm gonna blog about that!").
this is how it went:
little girl #1: "excuse me, excuse me! the other day, we heard someone playing the guitar in your garage, and she was SOOOO good!"
mom: [chuckling] "yeah, that was my daughter. she likes to play the guitar and sing."
little girl #1: "she is so great! we came up and pressed our ears up to the garage door so we could listen. we knocked on the door and wanted to know who it was. my sister asked, 'is that a famous person in there?' and i was like, 'no famous people live in utah!' "
little girl #2: [interjection] "yeah they do!"
little girl #1: "my sister plays the guitar and sings, and she's pretty good."
mom: "well, i'll tell my daughter that you liked her music!"
the event to which they were referring happened about a week ago when i needed some jam time in the garage. indeed, it was just about the cutest thing ever, to see two small shadows creep up against the door, pressing ears intently against it. if they did like my music, i wanted to create something akin to santa clause for them...something that might excite them and get their imaginations going, but somewhat elusive, so i never did make myself known to my little audience. i actually wanted to get a picture of their silhouettes, but my camera was nowhere to be found, and unfortunately there are no spare cameras in the garage.
i am reminded of "the incredibles", when robert parr asks the little tricycle kid what he's waiting for, to the response of, "i dunno...something amazing, i guess!"
though i'm not amazing, i'm extremely happy and feel very privileged to have sparked the excitement of these two little girls.
can i just say that from the praise of these little...6? 7?-year olds, i can't stop smiling?

The Hall is a place that aims to please...
On Thursday, September 20, 2007, my friend Jeff took me to the Guster concert at the Venue in SLC. I love Guster, however, upon returning to Provo after the concert, Jeff was a bigger fan of the opening band. After several months of intense contemplation and repeated listenings of their stuff, I couldn't help but follow suit.
The band? Tally Hall.
You should read Jeff's blog about the first concert; it's a pretty good summary: check it out. The band, new to us at the time, was refreshing, fun, and altogether radical. Especially when the lead singer forgot the words to the rap in the song we now know as "The Ruler of Everything", and kicked himself out of the band r
Anyway, we were fortunate enough to see them again in concert on Friday, March 7, 2008 at a much closer venue: Velour. Jeff almost died from excitement, and I did too. Our friends Stephen and Allison, who met them the first time with us, were present again. The concert was fabulous, and my favorite part was when Rob, one of the lead singers, asked us politely to cooperate and make a space in the middle of the floor, then to sit down. To my pure blissful joy, the space opened up right in front of me...and I didn't budge. So, the members of Tally Hall came and plopped themselves down, right in front of us! So close that Rob sat on my foot. I was so proud. They proceeded to sing two songs there, "Be Born" and "Who Loves the Sun". I recorded "Be Born".
Between their superb harmonies and Joe's supreme whistling capabilities, I was a happy girl. To top it off, they returned to the stage and ended their show with "Free Bird"...one of the most amazing guitar/drum solos EVER. Absolutely amazing. I especially liked Ross' face as he drummed: he looked so happy and his hair was flying everywhere.
So...Saturday, May 23, 2008 rolls around, and guess who's in town...again. Provo got seconds! Adam McBride and I met Jeff, Murph, Cheryl, and their friends there for Jeff and my THIRD Tally Hall experience. I personally liked the 2nd show best, but would never regret this one. Jeff took careful note of their order of songs and texted it to me:
1-Welcome to Tally Hall
2-Greener
3-?
4-Taken for a Ride
5-Good Day
6-Just Apathy
7-Banana Man
8-Spring and a Storm
9-13
10-Ruler of Everything
11-Two Wuv
12-Blinded by the Light
(they also played The Bidding, but I'm not sure where)
They didn't come down to the audience this time, which was fine, because there weren't as many people with school being out and such. We had a fabulous view, though, basically we weaseled our way to all fit on what would be equivalent to the second-ish row had we been sitting (which, of course, we weren't).
After the show, they came out and we talked to Rob (yellow tie). I felt bad because we kind of monopolized him a bit and then did the same to Joe (red tie). But all the same, I loved talking with them because they're simply cool guys. Like, if they weren't in a band and we just happened to go to the same school or something, I'd like to be friends with them, just because they are that chill.
Okay, I could go on about Tally Hall, but, alas, Statistics 221 is calling my name. So last thing: I want to tell the picture story. Here goes.
Concert #1: We wanted to get a picture with Rob, so we did. Jeff, Allison, Stephen and I. It was grand.Concert #2: I went up to Rob and said, "Hi! My name is Kristin and we met 6 months ago when you were touring with Guster. This is a picture of us!" After examining the picture, comprehension dawned and he said, "Yeah! I remember you guys! That was a great picture, Let's do it again!" However, since Stephan didn't hang around long enough for the picture, Rob wrote, "STEPHEN" on his hand, and held it up in his place. Zubin (blue tie) also joined our picture. *FLASH* went the camera.
Concert #3: Immediately upon his coming out after the concert's end, Jeff and I showed him both the previous pictures. We all knew what must be done. We got in place, however, Jeff and I were the only two of the original fans still left, as Stephen has moved home for the summer and Allison's currently in Europe. So, Rob wrote on his hand again ("Is it okay if he's 'Stevo' this time?") and told me that maybe Allison is more of a "fist" type person. So I made a fist and he wrote "Alli" on my knuckles (the name which, by the way, still resides on my knuckles 3 days later)
Ten reasons I like Tally Hall so much?
1-Clean, creative music: My mom even likes them!
2-Musicianship: they are incredibly musically talented--amazingly tight harmonies--which sounds silly considering they're a band, but it's shocking how many artists are out there these days with not a lick of real talent.
3-Variety: with some of their songs, if you were to randomly listen to two or three different parts of the song, chances are you might just think it's a couple different songs. Then they have totally crazy songs, then super chill songs.
4-Uniform: they don't need retro sequin jackets or skinny pants to be cool. They have their own style, and it has become their trademark.
5-They share: Their shows aren't monopolized by just one band member. They all have little spotlights and recognize everyone as a part of the whole (or, the Hall).
6-The guys: SO personable. I love just talking to them--they are so chill, and don't stick themselves up on a pedestal. They are just normal guys who happen to travel everywhere and do what they love, and do it well.
7-Bongos, xylophones, and other various percussion instruments (the names of which still elude me)
8-Their frequent use of a megaphone.
9-Whiteboy rap? Heck yes. And whistling solos.
10-They like to kick it at the university, but all work and no play makes them crazy, so...they jump in the bumpin SUV.
Honestly, who could argue with that?

my birfday!
Yesterday was the big 2-0. (20 years old, that is. It's not some game score of 2 to 0...never mind). I don't have lots of time to post (in fact, if possible I have negative time to post) but I wanted to make note of the amazingness of yesterday. So I will list briefly:
*I came home from school to find beautiful yellow and purple flowers in my room the night before my birthday! They were the start to a great birthday.
*After midnight, Joseph (as in Josweph) and I got my first drink as a 20-year old: horchata. At a place in Lindon, called W****rs. The reason I can't type where it is? Because we spent a whole night last week questing to find Orange Bang (it's whipped!) and found it here. So I'm not just going to give away where it is...go on your own quest.
*Woke up. my super sweet roommate Steph had written, "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear kristin, happy birthday to you!" on my mirror.
*My other adorable roommate Marvi made me banana pancakes, chocolate milk, and a little fruit cup thingy for breakfast! (she, too, understands that no meal is complete without chocolate milk)
*At school, my dance class sang happy birthday to me. Horrible sounding, but welcome nonetheless.
*My friend Ammon totally gave me loverly yellow flowers (accented with red...it matched my outfit!) and banana bread! mmm, the tasty goodness.
*Friend Matthew gave me a fabulous birthday CD full of happy songs that I've always wanted. Apparently he has been meticulously note-taking; every time I say "Ooh! Ooh! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!" (which happens more frequently than most people would think), he would go write it down. Needless to say, my iPod is much more "me" now. Also, he got me a sweEEet scrapbook thang with a few of my favorite pictures from around the Tree.
*Adam "Awesome" Bangerter joined our lunch bunch and that pretty much made it a party.
******skip ahead********
*Took my Comms quiz. Did decently.
*The long-awaited event of watching Brian Regan (the Reganmeister!) with Kevin Lambert, with whom I work. Because Kevin is professionally funny along with his rooommate, there was much rejoicing and laughter with the three of them (including Brian Regan) there.
*My amazing roommates Stephanie, Linsey, and Marvi took me to The Pizza Factory! Along with Linsey's boyfriend Corbin and Steph's friend John. It was a good time...I tried to take a picture of all of us. Many attempts later, our food came and i filled up promptly. And Linsey gave me guitar picks and a harmonica!!! Oh. My. Amazing. I'm stoked.
*Come back to the apartment to find out that my room has been completely thrashed...by love! Jess and Diana had come and did a fabulous job. There were streamers, balloons, and candy strewn all over the floor. My favorite part was the fabulous sticky notes all over! (I love sticky notes!) They were "Top 20 memories and things we love about Kristin!" The post-its were all inside jokes, good memories, and just random adorable sayings from my random adorable friends.
*Par-TAY! With my fabulous friends there! Completed by a huge birthday poster made by Matthew, a diagram of my DNA as seen by my friends, especially Corey, a giant birthday cake crown crafted by Rhett, and my mom coming :)
*Impromptu dance party
*Fabulous time jamming on guitars with Diana, with ukulele accompaniment by Rhett
*Random little concert that Tricia and I performed atop a rock outside my apt (complete with an audience of Ryan on the balcony, Diana listening through the window, Austin and Miriam coming in formal outfits, and the random stranger named Adam who requested me to play my guitar)
*I ended the night with a marker fight. I definitely won...until Joseph took my camera hostage, the ransom being a French mustache drawn on my face by his hand. The weapon? Pink Crayola marker.
